History of Plas Farmhouse

Plas was occupied (perhaps built during Elizabethan days) by John Vaughan a member of the Vaughan family of Pembrey, Carmarthenshire. He died in 1580/1 leaving six daughters one of whom Jane, received the former mansion as part of her share. It remained in the family until the latter half of the 18th century when it was passed to the Meares family who let the mansion and land to local tenants.

The property has been called Narberth Place, Narberth Place House, Narberth House and also as Place and Plas.

In the Hearth Tax list of 1670 it contained six hearths making it the largest house in the town.

The present Plas is now a two storey L shaped farmhouse. The rear wall clearly part of the old mansion contains the remains of a large decorated window in freestone together with some Elizabethan corbelling.
